Proof yeast in warm water with a tablespoon of the sugar. |

Add yeast to the sifted dry ingredients with the shortening and knead 10 minutes or more. Let rise until it has doubled in bulk. |

Punch down and form dough into loaves and place in greased baking pans. |

Bake at 350° and test doneness at 30 minutes. |
